In our office, we offer internal bleaching of singular teeth that have changed colors because of previous infection, injury, or restorative procedures. This procedure is sometimes called "walking bleach". It is safe, effective, and oftentimes saves the necessity to shave the tooth and cover it with restorative materials. In most cases, this procedure is reserved for front teeth. It can be conveniently done at the same time that a root canal procedure is performed. It is not always necessary to redo the whole root canal for the bleaching procedure to be successful. The major advantage of internal bleaching is that the tooth’s integrity is not compromised. In those cases, new restorations such as veneers, crowns, or three-quarter crowns are not necessary. Please ask if you have concerns with the color of your individual teeth.
